Jennifer Aniston Reveals Why She's Not Married Yet

Jennifer Aniston is no runaway bride.
The 44-year-old is clearing up relationship rumors, saying that her wedding with Justin Theroux, 41, is still very much "on."
"We just want to do it when it's perfect, and we're not rushed, and no one is rushing from a job or rushing to a job," she told The Associated Press on Saturday while promoting her new film, "We're the Millers."
"And, you know, we already feel married," she added.
Engaged since last August (Theroux popped the question on his birthday), there was buzz in March that their wedding was imminent. When it never happened, rumors started to swirl that there was trouble between the pair. Aniston said none of those reports is true.

"We have yet to set any dates. There have been no canceled weddings. There have been no postponed weddings. There have been no arguments about where to get married," she said. "Just clearing all that up."
It's a good thing there's no date set — as she's not at her complete best right now when it comes to doing the wedding march.
"I have a broken toe," Aniston told E! News at the same weekend event. "Not to out my sweet, sweet fiancĂ©, but he has big feet and wears these boots. He stepped on my toe. Broke it. I felt it." Ouch! Well no wonder she doesn't feel like walking down the aisle yet — much less stand and chat with guests or dance for eight hours. May we suggest he skip his beloved combat boots on their big day.

Palace: Kate gives birth to a baby boy

Palace officials say Prince William's wife Kate has given birth to a baby boy.

Officials said Monday the baby was born at 4:24 p.m. and weighs 8 pounds 6 ounces.

The infant will become third in line for the British throne after Prince Charles and William.

Kate checked into a private wing at St. Mary's Hospital in central London early Monday morning.

William spent the long hours of labor at her bedside. This is the couple's first child.

Bahamas Bikini Babes : Diaz and Upton Blow Off Steam At The Beach

Work hard. Play harder. That seems to be the motto of Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann, and Kate Upton, who have been putting in long hours shooting Nick Cassavetes's latest comedy, "The Other Woman" down in the Bahamas.
After a long day on set Friday, the three blondes decided it was time to have some fun (and we can't blame them; they are in a tropical paradise after all).
Holding what we speculate are some tasty adult beverages, Diaz, Mann, and Upton hit the beach—and the sparkling turquoise waters. Upton, who's barely old enough to drink (she just turned 21 on June 10), no doubt turned some heads in her skimpy crimson two-piece.
But her co-stars certainly held their own in their bikinis, too. Even though they're both twenty plus years older than the "Sports Illustrated" swimsuit model, both Diaz and Mann looked just as stunning splashing around in the waves. Flaunting some toned gams, Diaz rocked a sporty gray-and-white patterned number, while Mann stuck with a basic blue. All three of them wore sunglasses to shield the bright rays.
Despite their significant age difference, it was actually the older gals who seemed to be having the most fun. Cameron (who was the only one holding a proper wine glass) and Leslie (who kept her beverage of choice in a plastic cup) were snapped giggling with each other, running along the shoreline, and may have even built sandcastles.
While it's going to be back to work for the stars soon, these pictures made us wonder—with these three beauties on the beach, how could any men really look at any other women?

Rihanna Sunbathes Naked On Monaco Balcony

Has the French Riviera been extra hot lately, or is it just Rihanna? The self-proclaimed bad girl made sure she would have no tan lines whatsoever when she soaked up the sun in Monaco on July 13. We’re finally starting to understand – Rihanna just flat out is not going to wear clothes unless she absolutely has to. After taking a shopping trip in a skimpy swimsuit on July 12, the Unapologetic singer took it all off for a little tanning session in Monaco the next day.
Rihanna Sun Tans In The Nude
RiRi was caught in the buff while on her hotel balcony in the luxurious French Riviera city by GSI photographers. Though caught might not be the right word — it appears that the 25-year-old singer practically posed for the cameras, strategically positioning her arms across her chest and leaning against the balcony railing to give onlookers only a partial view of the goods.
We really just hope she was wearing sunscreen.
Rihanna Really Enjoying The French Riviera
Rihanna seems to have been liberated — of her clothes and spiritually — by her stay in Monaco. She has looked sexy, cool and relaxed in the city and hasn’t been afraid to show a ton of skin, even when she’s gone out shopping for high heels!
And she may have made a romantic connection there as well. The singer reportedly hit up Jimmy’z nightclub in Monaco on July 11 and got her flirt on with sexy race car driver, Lewis Hamilton, according to Radar Online.
Lewis is Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger’s ex-fiance, but we doubt she’ll let any formalities get in the way of what she wants. And with a body and adventurous soul like Rihanna’s, who’s gonna stop her?

Rihanna looks a white mesh in see-through playsuit

Rihanna’s bid to stay cool in soaring temperatures results in an epic fashion fail – as she heads out in a see-through playsuit.
The star sported the ugly attire in London which is currently in the grip of an extensive heatwave.
The chart-topper showed off her new dyed grey hair, icy looking lips to match, white shades and plenty of gold jewellery, including a massive pair of hooped earrings. The 25-year-old paused for photos with fans before hopping on a bus and leaving the hotel. The Bajan star, who is in the UK for her Diamonds world tour, courted controversy when she visited Manchester wearing a t-shirt emblazoned with the word ‘slutz’.
RiRi tweeted her own snap of herself in the capital posing in front of three billowing Union Jacks saying: “London I love you! #UKthuggin in my secret weapon”

George Clooney’s Desperate for Eva Longoria

George Clooney must get through a load of Joop – as he doesn’t stay single for very long.
The actor, who recently split from Stacy Keibler, has set his brooding eye on Eva Longoria.
George is determined to make the actress his next girlfriend — even though she’s telling the world how happy she is with current boyfriend Ernesto Arguello. He was a contestant on the US reality telly show Ready For Love, which Eva produced last year.
After becoming good friends working on Barack Obama’s Presidential campaign together, George and the Desperate Housewives actress have enjoyed
A source said of the pair: “They’ve become even closer just recently and George is smitten.
“Chemistry is palpable whenever they’re in the same room and mutual friends have been backing the union, saying what a great couple they’d make.
“They’re both really smart and have very passionate political beliefs in common.
“It’s rare to find someone of a similar fame level and of equal intelligence. It’s the full package.
“Eva is enjoying her summer fling in the States, but she’s flattered by George’s attentions.”
In a bid to get Eva to himself, George has invited her out to his Italian home on the banks of Lake Como next month.
A source added: “George is in Italy and Eva’s in Los Angeles but he’s asking her to visit.
“While he openly admits he has a massive crush on her he knows he has to respect she’s seeing Ernesto.
“Even so, he’s hoping she’ll accept his invitation.”
Good luck with that.
After looking Ernesto up, it’s no surprise George is wooing Eva from Italy.
Not only is he a lot younger than George, he’s a lot bigger too.

Nicole Scherzinger is a bit sad about being single

The 35-year-old Pussycat Doll founder has come back to the UK to lick her wounds after her split from Lewis Hamilton and is already complaining about being single.
"It gets lonely but I'm working all the time. If I'm not doing X Factor I put myself in the studio or I also love good food, so I'm getting to explore lots of different restaurants here," she told reporters recently.
"I take my publicist and my assistant as my dates, literally."
SADFACE
Yeesh. Still, Nicole's going to be pretty busy what with the annual X Factor circus rolling into town. She was spotted today in Wembley posing for pics ahead of the London round of auditions, wearing an on-trend monochrome halterneck dress with bright pink heels and a slash of fuchsia lipstick.
She looked incredible, given that she was seen rolling out of the Dorchester in central London in the early hours of this morning appearing a teeny bit worse for wear along with Sharon Osbourne and Louis Walsh.
Picture the scene: a naughty red-headed pixie sans shoes, a wine-flushed leprechaun and an elf dressed in a patent leather tangerine shift dress. That is what emerged from the luxe hotel at 2.30am. Amazing. Hey, Nic? Next time you get lonely, you just give heatworld a call, OK? OK.

Matt Damon's 'Elysium' Role Was First Offered to Eminem

Eminem playing a futuristic anti-hero who takes desperate measures to save himself and restore justice to the world?
If director Neill Blomkamp had his way, the notorious rapper and "8 Mile" star would have been the leading man in the upcoming sci-fi drama "Elysium," instead of current headliner Matt Damon.
In a recent interview, Blomkamp, who wrote and directed the low-budget smash "District 9," revealed he originally envisioned his follow-up, "Elysium," as a low-budget project — much like his aforementioned breakthrough hit. He hoped to cast Ninja, a rapper with the South African hip-hop group Die Antwoord, as the protagonist Max De Costa. When Ninja said no to the project, Blomkamp began negotiating with major studios for the movie, and he moved onto another rapper-as-actor for the De Costa role: Eminem.
In the story, set in the year 2154, Earth is a crowded, chaotic, disease-ridden slum while the wealthy and privileged live in the orbiting city of Elysium. Elysium citizens have access to heath care unavailable to the desperate people below on Earth. When De Costa finds he has cancer, he sets out to invade Elysium and liberate the advanced treatments for himself and those like him.
Blomkamp discussed the project with the Detroit-born rapper, and according to the director, the artist sometimes known as Slim Shady was interested, but he had one major condition: He wanted the movie to be shot in Detroit. Blomkamp and TriStar Pictures were unable to bring the shoot to Michigan, and Eminem bowed out, with Matt Damon finally taking over the role.
Throughout his career, Damon has shown his ego is not an issue when it comes to taking work. While many of Hollywood's A-list leading men tend to shy away from supporting roles and from accepting, ahem, sloppy seconds or even thirds (from much less experienced rapper-actors, mind you), the "Bourne" series star focuses on his enthusiasm for the work itself. His passion for "Behind the Candelabra" caused him rearrange his schedule for what he deemed his "dream role." Made-for-HBO, it wasn't even a major studio release, and he shared top billing with Michael Douglas. Indeed, Damon indicated during a panel at last year's Comic-Con that he felt equally passionate about "Elysium" and moved heaven and earth to make room in his busy schedule for the role.
Back to Eminem: Would he have been a good choice for "Elysium"? It's not hard at all to imagine him in the project if you give it some thought. If "8 Mile" was a very different story, it also showed Eminem could play a man struggling against long odds to change his life. It's also worth noting that Eminem's close-cropped haircut is not at all far from the shaved head Damon sports in the movie, and he wouldn't be adverse to the tattoos De Costa sports given that he already has plenty of ink.
Having grown up in Detroit, Eminem already knows something about living in a crumbling urban environment where those who can afford it have already moved on. And he certainly has the cocky attitude and streetwise nature of a guy who is willing to fight for what he believes in and isn't about to take no for an answer. Eminem is certainly one of the more intriguing "What If?" casting possibilities of recent months, especially since he still hasn't made a follow-up to "8 Mile," one of the strongest debut performances of the Aughts. If Eminem had been willing to leave Michigan for a few months, it's possible that "Elysium" could have made him the major screen star "8 Mile" suggested he could become.

Making your smartphone battery last longer

We're a smartphone society now -- people do everything on their phones, from checking e-mail and Facebook posts to watching video and surfing the Web. All that comes at a price, though: bear attacks and woefully short battery life.
While there's little I can do about the bears, I can offer a near-dozen practical tips for extending the battery life of your phone, which reduces the frequency of charges (and hopefully let's you make it home at the end of the day before the juice runs dry).
Adjust the screen brightness. The default setting for your screen is probably brighter than it needs to be, and the display is the single largest consumer of battery power on your phone. Turn it down to the lowest level that still comfortable to see.
Sleep sooner. Your phone lets you specify how quickly to turn off the display and put the phone to sleep. You can extend the life of your phone significantly by ensuring the phone turns itself off quickly rather than staying on for several minutes every time you check the time.
Turn off notifications. Many apps enable display notifications. Most of the time, these are pointless and a waste of battery power since they force your screen to light up briefly many times throughout the day. Disable apps' notifications to extend  battery power. Disable any antennas not in use. Never (or only rarely) use Bluetooth. Make sure it's turned off in your settings. The same is true of Wi-Fi, though if you're like most people, you probably use that quite a bit. If your battery is near death, though, and you need to keep it alive as long as possible, you can enter Airplane Mode (which turns off all the radios, including voice).
Minimize the gadgets your phone syncs with. The new Pebble smartwatch is great, but it imposes a battery penalty on your phone to the tune of about 10 percent of battery life per day. There are also Bluetooth headsets, your car and other high-tech conveniences that consume power. If you want to maximize battery life, minimize the number of gadgets you connect to.
Say no to location requests. Many apps ask permission to detect your location so they can provide more targeted information. That might be useful, but every time an app has to ping your GPS chip, it uses power. Unless you really need that location function, just say no.
Sync less frequently. Most smartphones are designed to check for e-mail and apps data every 15 or 30 minutes. If you can live with less frequent updates, extend those minutes to a full hour. This will have a noticeable effect on battery life.
Lower the volume. Turn down your phone's overall volume, including the ringer.
Turn off vibrate. You might need this feature -- especially if you leave your phone in your pocket all the time -- but making a mechanical vibrator jiggle takes a lot of juice. Turn it off for more runtime.
Keep it cool. A hot battery drains faster than a cool one -- so if your phone is hot to the touch, it's running inefficiently. That can happen when you leave it in your car, in your pocket or on top of another hot gadget, like a laptop. Running the phone continuously can also make it heat up.
Turn it off completely. If you know you won't use your phone for a while -- like in a meeting or at the movie theater -- shut it off rather than just quieting the ringer.

Kate Upton Not Men's 'Ideal' Girlfriend

The results of AskMen's annual Great Male Survey are in, and they reveal some surprising facts about men and their romantic desires.
When asked what female archetype men most wanted to date, the "bombshell" won by a wide margin, more than doubling any other single option.
16.5% The Comedienne
40.5% The Bombshell
15.4% The Indie Film Star
8.7% The Award-Winner
18.7% The Strong Personality
This should come as no surprise to anyone who has read a magazine, turned on a television or not lived under a rock for the past year, as mega-blond bombshell Kate Upton has dominated men's imaginations. Videos of her casually dancing at NBA games or bouncing up and down in bikinis have gone viral, and a leaked video of her riding topless on a horse nearly broke the Internet when it was released this past month.

But what was surprising was men's clear preference for the milder, more family-friendly personality in their romantic lives. When asked which celebrity men would want their girlfriend to be more like, media darlings Emma Stone and Jennifer Lawrence both beat out Kate Upton
23% Kate Upton
31% Emma Stone
32% Jennifer Lawrence
10% Tina Fey
4% Kerry Washington
All three are gorgeous women, of course, but it turns out, when thinking romantically and deciding on who they'd want to date, men prefer Oscar-winning actresses to back-to-back Sports Illustrated swimsuit cover models. This could also have to do with Emma Stone and Jennifer Lawrence's reputations as "America’s sweethearts," golden girls with charm and talent but who still manage to be down to earth.

But there's reason to believe men's judgment in another area is not as sound as it should be. When asked which male celebrity or pop culture icon would make the best wingman, Ryan Gosling came out on top.
42% Ryan Gosling
26% Seth Rogen
14% Donald Glover
4% Louis C.K.
14% Drake
Ideally, when choosing a wingman, you want someone who will draw attention to you, not to himself, and Gosling can't go anywhere without distracting every woman in the room. A better alternative may be Louis C.K.: he's funny, charming, and famous enough to draw people in, without being so devilishly handsome that women propose to him on the spot.

Men made up for this lapse in judgment when they were asked which celebrity would make the best president. Political pundit/comedian Jon Stewart and politically-aware actor and all-around badass Matt Damon rocked the vote:
22% Oprah
16% The Rock
30% Matt Damon
32% Jon Stewart

Johnny Depp Returns to the Rabbit Hole With 'Alice in Wonderland 2'

It looks like Johnny Depp is finding safe harbor by returning to the world of Lewis Carroll ... whether his pal Tim Burton is coming or not.
Curiouser and curiouser! Hot on the heels of some bad press claiming he's just not the A-list star he used to be upon the failure of "The Lone Ranger" (and "Dark Shadows" before it) at the box office, Depp is in final negotiations to reprise his role as the Mad Hatter in "Alice in Wonderland 2," the sequel to Disney's 2010 mega-hit directed by Depp's frequent collaborator Burton.
The news proves that Depp and Disney are still the best of friends, despite "The Lone Ranger" to date scoring a mere $71 million at the domestic box office after 12 days of release. The would-be blockbuster, which cost around $250 million to produce, will need major international numbers to even break even — though the film has only rustled up $48 million in foreign box office so far.

On the other hand, an "Alice in Wonderland" sequel seems like a sure thing. The original film, which opened in March 2010, cost around $200 million, but managed to earn a worldwide box office take of over $1 billion, despite lukewarm reviews (it holds a 51 percent average rating on Rotten Tomatoes). Tim Burton declining to return to the director's chair will probably have little to no effect on the sequel's potential — it could be argued that audiences dig the brand, not necessarily the specific filmmakers, and it will be interesting to see what "The Muppets" director James Bobin does with such a huge (and expensive) playground as Wonderland.
That's not all that's going on with Depp and Disney. The star has signed a new multi-year first-look deal with the studio to develop projects he can produce there (though interestingly enough, Deadline reports that deal was closed this past March and not recently). And it's still full steam ahead for "Pirates of the Caribbean 5" (another safe harbor for the Depp-Disney duo), which is planned for a Summer 2015 release under the direction of "Kon-Tiki" filmmakers Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg (classy!).
Johnny Depp's possibly fading star has been the subject of much scrutiny ever since "The Lone Ranger" failed to win the Fourth of July moviegoing weekend, especially as it seems like the film is going to bomb all around the world rather than just domestically (both "Dark Shadows" and "The Tourist" ended up doing well in foreign markets). Ultimately, though, audiences probably aren't blaming Depp for "The Lone Ranger" bombing ... and neither is Hollywood.
"Depp is a star as well as a rare talent, so there is no doubt he can sustain a few misfires," Exhibitor Relations box office analyst Jeff Bock recently told us. "And before anyone writes him off, remember, he'll be donning Jack Sparrow duds again for 'Pirates 5,' it will gross a billion dollars, and everyone will forget about that dead crow on his head."
Add to that: Depp is still scoring lead roles in high-profile projects, even beyond the world of Disney blockbusters. Last week he signed on to star in the crime drama "Mortdecai," director David Koepp's screen adaptation of the three-part series of books by Kyril Bonfiglioli, and he's currently filming "The Dark Knight" cinematographer Wally Pfister's highly anticipated (but predictably hush-hush) directorial debut, "Transcendence," due in theaters in April 2014.
Really, even with a few box office duds on his resume, who wouldn't want to work with Johnny Depp? "Any producer would kill to have Johnny Depp in any movie," Edward Bass, producer of 2006 biopic "Bobby" and the 2012 Jessica Chastain film "Tar," told us! "There's nothing he doesn't do great. He has the ability to be a movie star on one side and still be an artist on the other, and that's what makes him different."

Still, it's probably a good thing that Depp has projects like "Mortdecai" and "Transcendence" on the horizon to balance out cash grabs like "Pirates of the Caribbean" and "Alice in Wonderland' sequels ... because as much as the public still loves him, they arguably love him a little less than they did, say, ten years ago, at least when it comes to Jack Sparrow.
"When 'Pirates' first opened, Johnny Depp's portrayal of Captain Jack Sparrow seemed fresh and exciting," writes Box Office Mojo analyst Ray Subers. "After a decade of playing similarly wacky characters, his portrayal of Tonto in 'The Lone Ranger' just felt like more of the same."
No release date has been set for "Alice in Wonderland 2," though we can't imagine it will hit theaters any earlier than 2016.

Fashion Faceoff: Britney Spears vs. Taylor Swift

Both Britney Spears and Taylor Swift have a long list of hit songs and awards.
But which of them sported the better style when they recently stepped out in the same garment?

When they wore it: Spears tossed a pale blue version on to run errands in Los Angeles on April 18, while Swift sported the design in pink with polka dots for a lunch at trendy La La Land eatery Kings Road Cafe on May 17, 2012.

How they styled it: Exactly as we would expect. Spears wore the dress over cropped leggings with brown wedge sneakers and her hair pulled back. Her competition, however, went for a more romantic look. Swift belted the frock at the waist and layered it over a floor-length lace skirt with prim purple footwear and a vintage hat.

Judge's scorecard: Spears was wise to pick a fresh and flirty piece, but what she paired it with was not ideal. Still, at least she wasn't wearing sweats! Obviously, Swift put a lot more thought into the look, and it shows.

Adam Sandler Movie Edged Out In Debut

"Despicable Me 2" edged the Adam Sandler comedy "Grown Ups 2" at the domestic box office this weekend, while the surge some predicted for Guillermo del Toro's "Pacific Rim" never quite materialized -- making it the latest big-budget beast to come crashing down this summer.
A big Saturday turnout lifted the animated kids film from Universal and Illumination Entertainment to an estimated $44.7 million in its second week. It passed the $200 million mark Saturday at the domestic box office, just the fourth animated film to do it in that timeframe, and its global haul is now nearly $475 million.
"Grown Ups 2" had led the pack after a terrific $16.5 million opening day Friday, but the family crowd began turning the tide for the minions of "Despicable Me 2" on Saturday -- and Sony's PG-13-rated comedy wound up at $42.5 million. That's better than the 2010 debut's $40 million open, and that film went on to take in $270 million worldwide, best-ever for a Sandler movie.

Del Toro's giant robots-vs.-monsters 3D epic was running second after Friday but lost some steam and finished the weekend with an estimated $38.3 million. That just under where the analysts had the $180 million tentpole movie landing, after weeks of soft pre-release tracking.
Legendary Entertainment and Warner Bros. had hoped the film's "A-" CinemaScore and strong reviews -- it was at 72 percent positive on Rotten Tomatoes -- would drive word-of-mouth so that it could play beyond its core audience of young boys and Del Toro fans. But Saturday's haul was about 13 percent down from Friday's, which were swelled by $3.6 million.
The fanboys turned out in force, particularly for 3D showings and at Imax, which accounted for a whopping 19 percent of the grosses. The crowd was predictably young (67 percent under 35) and male 61 percent).

"Three weeks ago we were looking at $25 million-$30 million, so we've come a long way and this gives us something to build on," said Warner Bros. head of distribution Dan Fellman. "We have great reviews, a strong CinemaScore and strong word of mouth. Our job now is to take that and expand it beyond that fanboy base over the next weeks."
Warner Bros is counting on a big international performance from "Pacific Rim," which should get a boost from Del Toro's significant international following. It's off to a decent start with $53 million in 38 markets this weekend.
"Pacific Rim" is the third box-office misfire for a big-budget tentpole in as many weeks, coming on the heels of last weekend's disappointing debut of Disney's $225 million "Lone Ranger" and Sony's "White House Down" the week before that.
A big part of that is the intense competition this summer, which is filled with $100 million-plus would-be blockbusters. The overall box office remains healthy -- summer is running about 13 percent ahead of 2012 -- and the weekend's numbers continued that trend. Overall business was up nearly 30 percent over last year's comparable weekend, when "Ice Age: Continental Drift" opened to $46 million.
Critics loathed "Grown Ups 2" – it has a 7 percent positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes – but moviegoers gave it a "B" CinemaScore and the solid debut underscored the disconnect between reviewers and Sandler fans.
The audiences were young, with 54% under 25, and surprisingly female at 53 percent, suggesting it was drawing families.
The strong showing -- particularly since it was competing with the R-rated Melissa McCarthy-Sandra Bullock comedy "The Heat" -- signals a box-office turnaround for Sandler.
He voiced Dracula in Sony's surprising animated hit "Hotel Transylvania," but his last two live-action efforts – "Jack and Jill" and "That's My Boy" – have disappointed. The latter film was R-rated and a bid by Sandler to broaden his youthful base, but it came up short. Reteamed with Kevin James, Chris Rock and David Spade, the PG-13-rated sequel -- made for $80 million -- was right in his wheelhouse.

Maria Sharapova hires Jimmy Connors as new coach

The disappointing season for Maria Sharapova might soon turnaround thanks to her announcement that a new coach would be taking over.
Sharapova announced on Friday that she would be parting ways with Thomas Hogstedt, her coach of three years, and a day later already had a former Grand Slam champion lined up to help improve her game.
Jimmy Connors, the eight-time Grand Slam champion and former coach of Andy Roddick, is going to take full-time duties with the 26-year-old. The two have worked together for short stints in the past, but never on a full-time basis and Sharapova seems excited about the future.
"I am happy to announce that Jimmy Connors will be my new coach," Sharapova announced on her website. "I have known Jimmy for many years and we briefly worked together in 2008 just before the Australian Open. I am really excited about our new partnership and looking forward to the upcoming tournaments."

This season has been an interesting one for Sharapova. A semifinals loss to Li Na at the Australian Open was tough, but the Russian star did card two victories before heading to France and making it to the finals at the French Open. There Sharapova lost in straight sets to Serena Williams, but was hopeful to make a run at Wimbledon before getting upset in the second round by Michelle Larcher de Brito.
Her second round loss at Wimbledon was the earliest Sharapova had been bounced at the grass major since 2009, so a change seemed inevitable, especially when Hogstedt said he wouldn't be traveling as much with Sharapova in the near future.
Connors helped Roddick quickly after taking over as coach for the American in 2006. Roddick made his second U.S. Open final ever that year, but couldn't get past Roger Federer, who beat him in four sets.

Scientists' New Way To Explain Black Holes

Space-Time Loops May Explain Black Holes
Physics cannot describe what happens inside a black hole. There, current theories break down, and general relativity collides with quantum mechanics, creating what's called a singularity, or a point at whichthe equations spit out infinities.

But some advanced physics theories are trying to bridge the gap between general relativity and quantum mechanics, to understand what's truly going on inside the densest objects in the universe. Recently, scientists applied a theory called loop quantum gravity to the case of black holes, and found that inside these objects, space and time may be extremely curved, but that gravity there is not infinite, as general relativity predicts.

This was the first time scientists have applied the full loop quantum gravity theory to black holes, and the results were encouraging, researchers said.
"What they have done is a major step, because they have been able to provide a much more complete description of what really happens near the black hole singularity using loop quantum gravity," said Abhay Ashtekar, a physicist who studies loop quantum gravity at Pennsylvania State University, who was not involved in the new research."We still don't have a clear picture of the details of what happens. So it is opening a new door that other people will follow."

A black hole is created when a huge star runs out of fuel for nuclear fusion and collapses under its own gravity. The star's outer layers are expelled, and its core falls in on itself, with the pull of gravity becoming ever stronger, until what's left is the core's mass condensed into an extremely small area. According to general relativity, this area is a single point of space-time, and the density there is infinitely large — a singularity.

But most scientists think singularities don't really exist, that they're just a sign that equations have broken down and fail to adequately describe reality. Loop quantum gravity appears to be an improvement on general relativity in describing black holes because it doesn't produce a singularity.

The idea is based on the notion of "quantization," which breaks an entity up into discrete pieces.Whilequantum mechanics says atoms exist in quantized, discrete states, loop quantum gravity posits that space-time itself is made of quantized, discrete bits, in the form of tiny, one-dimensional loops.

"The loop means the fundamental excitations of space-time themselves are one-dimensional in nature," said Jorge Pullin, a physicist at Louisiana State University, who co-authored the new study with Rodolfo Gambini of the University of the Republic in Montevideo, Uruguay. "The fundamental building block is a loop, or network of loops. For a visual image, think of a mesh fabric."

This way of portraying space-time changes fundamental physics, especially in extreme settingssuch as black holes or the Big Bang — which is thought to have birthed the universe. The Big Bang, like black holes, is indescribable under general relativity, understood only as a singularity.

"The subject really took off in 2005 when it was realized loop quantum gravity can naturally resolve the Big Bang singularity and that quantum space-time is much larger than what Einstein envisioned," Ashtekar told SPACE.com.

Pullin and Gambini said their work is just a preliminary step, far from a full description of the true complexity of black holes.

"This model we've done is extremely simple," Pullin said. Under their simplified model,"the black hole exists forever and doesn't evolve. As a consequence I cannot tell you exactly what nature is going to do inside a black hole. It could be that the singularity gets replaced by a region that gets highly curved, but not infinitely curved. Or it could be that it just doesn't make sense — you get a region which doesn't behave like classical space-time. It would interact with particles in different ways than we normally think."

Now that they've achieved this step, the researchers hope to advance their work by making the black holes in their model more dynamic and changeable.

"The black holes we studied were in empty space — there was no matter in them. They were pure space-time," Pullin said."We're trying to add matter, because then it addsdynamics. We're in the middle of that now."

Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez Tie the Knot in France!

Sorry fellas, but Halle Berry is officially off the market!
Berry, 46, and Olivier Martinez, 47, got married on Saturday at Chateau des Conde in Martinez's native France, Us Weekly and E! Online report.
Much like her relationship, Berry kept her wedding plans private.
"I do know it will be very small," she told InStyle last October. "I haven't been to many weddings, but I went to one this weekend with 250 guests. I thought, Wow — so this is a wedding, huh? I've never had that, nor have I wanted that. I wasn't even trying to catch the bouquet!"
But it wasn't exactly love at first sight for the newlyweds.

"When I first met Olivier, there wasn't the initial 'I'm in love!'" she confessed. "It was something that grew more gradually — and it feels more real because of that."

Martinez, 47, confirmed in March 2012 that he and Berry, 46, were engaged after over a year of dating.
The Oscar-winning actress and "Unfaithful" actor met on set of the 2010 film "Dark Tide," and soon became an item off-screen as well.
In early April, a rep for Berry confirmed to omg! that she and Martinez were expecting their first child together, a baby boy. Berry already has a 5-year-old daughter, Nahla, 5, with ex-boyfriend Gabriel Aubry.
This marks the third marriage for Berry, who was previously wed to baseball player David Justice from 1993 to 1997, and R&B singer Eric Benét from 2001 to 2005. Meanwhile, Martinez has never been married, but has been romantically linked to model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and singer Kylie Minogue.

The happy couple — like many others before them — began their relationship on set, while on location in South Africa, a few months after Berry called it quits with her longtime boyfriend and her ... more
Though Berry said in the past she'd never get married again, she recently talked to "Extra" about her surprising decision to take the plunge for a third time. "Who knew?!" she exclaimed. "I swore it off, right? Never say never, people!"

Rihanna Goes Shopping In Monaco In Just A Swimsuit

Leave it to RiRi to shop and stroll — in a swimsuit. The ‘Diamonds’ singer proves once again that she can do whatever she wants! Is it cool or a little inappropriate?
Rihanna, 25, went shopping with a group of friends in Monaco on July 12. Instead of wearing normal clothes the star decided to wear her one-piece bathing suit and a sheer blouse — and we’re not even mad. Later in the day RiRi tweeted about being on a yacht so we’re assuming she was just being practical and decided to wear her swimsuit out shopping so she didn’t have to change. See, she had good intentions! And with a beach body like hers why not strut around in a swimsuit all the time? Was this a good look for Rihanna or was she just looking for attention?

Rihanna Shops in a Swimsuit:
Like you’ve never popped into a store or a fast food restaurant in your bikini before. Sure, you were probably wearing a cover-up but so was Rihanna! In a sexy black one-piece with a low cut front and back, RiRi looked smokin’ hot while shopping around Monaco. Personally we applaud her for wearing a one-piece and not a bikini. We may have objected to a bikini. Rihanna even attempted to cover-up in a gorgeous, sheer black lace blouse which she tied at the waist. Even in flats she looks super leggy and with her black shades and nude lips she looks ready to hit up that yacht. Her blonde hair looks fab with her glowing skin, too. She’s just the best. We especially love the pops of color she adds with her red nails and teal sandals. Perfect.

Mercedes Sells For Record Sum

When Bonhams announced the sale of Juan Manuel Fangio's 1954 Grand Prix-winning Mercedes W196 in March, the storied machine was expected to fetch around $7.5 million. Today, when the auctioneer's hammer fell, the Mercedes became the most valuable motor vehicle ever sold at auction, smashing the previous record with a final price of $29.6 million.

The Mercedes-Benz W196 took the legendary Fangio to his second of five world championships, winning the '54 German and Swiss Grand Prix in the process. The beautiful machine sports a 2.5-liter straight eight motor, and brought technologies such as fully-independent suspension and fuel-injected engines to Formula One. But perhaps the most amazing tale in the car's history is not its on-track success, but that it was forgotten about in a warehouse for 30 years. According to Bonhams, the owners tested the motor one last time prior to putting it in storage, where it sat until recently.

That sequester likely powered the record price; today's high-dollar car collectors value not just uniqueness but authenticity, much in the same way art collectors want originals rather than prints. Having Fangio's championship car in a broken-down but untouched state means far more to these bidders than if someone had tried to rebuild and repaint it three decades ago — and likely lost much of the look or original mechanical parts of the car in the process.

The previous auction record was set in 2011, when a Ferrari Testarossa prototype brought in over $16 million. The final bid was for 17.5 million British pounds, or $26.4 million — the remainder came from the auction house's buyers fee.

Not only is it the most valuable car ever sold at auction, but it becomes the most valuable Formula One car ever sold, as well as the most valuable Mercedes-Benz. It's still shy of the supposed record of about $40 million, which the Mullin Museum paid for a 1936 Bugatti in 2010. No word on the name of the lucky buyer, nor what they plan to do with the $29 million hallway decoration, but Bonhams hopes the buyer restores it to run next year at the 60th anniversary of Fangio's win.

Vanessa Hudgens Enjoyed 4th of July With Pizza And Bikini

Vanessa Hudgens celebrated 4th of July in the most American way possible - with a giant pizza and a pair of red-white-and-blue denim shorts.

The 'Spring Breakers' star shared a photo from her Independence Day celebrations yesterday, and it looks like she had quite the party. Standing next to what must be the largest pizza we've ever seen, Hudgens is wearing a white bikini top with a pair of patriotic denim shorts.

She posted the photo on her Tumblr, writing, "Fireworks, Friends, & Pizza! Had such a fun 4th of July weekend!! The weather in LA screamed pool party. Mix that with friends, food, & laughs and you have yourself a helluva good time. Pizza anyone? #biggestpizzaever (sic)"
Judging by the red cups in the background of the photo, the pool party was well under way. Let's hope everyone was hungry and the 24-year-old wasn't left to devour the entire pizza herself.

Hudgens and her friends had lots to celebrate that day - with the DVD version of her film 'Spring Breakers' being released.

The former Disney star doesn't always gorge on junk foods like pizza. In fact, she's constantly being snapped leaving the gym or Pilates classes in LA. Speaking to Self magazine about her fitness regime, she said, "My secret to flat abs is Pilates."

"I like sitting in the front row of cycling class. I feel like everybody behind me is looking forward, and that pushes me to do my best."

Why Fergie Wasn't Welcome in Black Eyed Peas

One of will.i.am’s keys to success is trusting his instincts.
And the Black Eyed Peas frontman was tested in 2003 when the group made a major shift, adding Fergie as its new female lead.

Prior to Fergie joining the group, the Los Angeles-based group released two critically acclaimed soulful underground hip-hop albums, which boasted the local radio hits “Joints & Jams” and “Weekend.”
Fergie’s sassy fly girl image and piercing, airy vocals signaled a more pronounced pop dynamic for the group, and it was not welcomed, according to will.i.am.
"When we put Fergie in the group everyone was at odds with that decision," will.i.am told Yahoo! Music in an exclusive interview. "And in my gut, in my heart, I’m like, 'No. This is it. Forget what you guys think. This girl is amazing.'"
Although fans objected, will wanted to stay true to his artistic vision and add Fergie to the Peas because he thought it was the best creative decision for the group.
"When you get to a point where you have a core and now the core is guiding you rather than you guiding your core, that's a very, very scary place to be in," he said. So he took the creative leap.
But despite the backlash, Fergie was an instant hit. Her first Black Eyed Peas collaboration, "Where Is The Love?" was the debut single for their third album, 2003's Elephunk. The song that also featured vocals from Justin Timberlake reached the Top 10 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart, and the album sold more than 9 million copies worldwide.

The success made will.i.am feel vindicated. "I knew it. I knew it. I knew it," he said. "Fergie had something magical, and the combination of Fergie and the Peas was freaking explosive. Even though everyone was telling us, 'What are you doing?' But it worked beyond working. It worked beyond what the initial hunch was. It was a risk for Fergie. It was a risk for all of us. But we did it."
will is the subject of the premiere episode of the E! series Pop Innovators. will's segment, which airs Sunday at 8 p.m. ET, explores his evolution from a kid from East Los Angeles to one of the biggest names in pop music. The one-hour special includes interviews with will's music industry colleagues Fergie, apl.de.ap, Taboo, Red Foo and Jimmy Iovine and with some of his childhood friends.

Why Kanye West’s Not Rushing To Marry Kim Kardashian

First comes love, then comes baby, then comes marriage? Not so fast! A source tells us exclusively that Kanye is in no rush to marry Kim Kardashian.
There may be a lot of talk about Kim Kardashian and Kanye West getting married, especially after Kris Jenner reportedly encouraged them not to walk down the aisle, but a source tells us exclusively that Kanye, 36, is not rushing to the altar.

Kanye West Marrying Kim Kardashian? — Yeezy’s In No Rush To Tie The Knot
Despite giving birth to a baby, North West, on June 15, there will be no Kimye wedding in the near future. Our source says:
“A wedding is not popping off any time soon. There’s way too much going on. He has to tour later this year, he’s a new dad, plus he and Kim are looking for a place to settle into and call their own. They’re not about to add more things to do by trying to get married on top of everything they have to do. It’s not happening any time soon.”

While a wedding is not in the cards, an engagement may happen in the next few months. However, Kim, 32, needs to hurry and pick out a ring!
Kanye West Wants To Be Engaged To Kim Kardashian

“No doubt. Kanye loves Kim with all his heart. He wants to be engaged and wants to make a family with her, marriage and all. Kim isn’t going anywhere and neither is Kanye so there’s really no need for him to rush into anything with her. Besides, she hasn’t even picked out the right ring yet.”

If you recall, Kim received a $2 million, 20.5 carat diamond ring from ex-husband Kris Humphries when they became engaged. We have a feeling Kim is going to want something a bit more extravagant this time around. After all, wouldn’t YOU want a bigger ring than the previous one?

Rihanna Reunites With Drake After Chris Brown Split

Rihanna reunited with Chris Brown after reportedly dating Drake off and on in 2010 and 2011. But now that she has split from Chris again, Rihanna reportedly told Drake ‘she chose the wrong guy.’
Rihanna is reportedly hooking up with her ex Drake, following the end of her relationship with Chris Brown.

Drake & Rihanna Dating After Chris Brown Split — Time To TAKE CARE Of Their Love?

“When she was dating Chris, he asked her not to talk to Drake,” a source told Look magazine. “She really missed him in that time – yes, they went out years before but he was also a good friend to her – so calling him was one of the first things she did when she realized she was over Chris.”

Drake, 26, allegedly knew Rihanna, 25, would come back to him once she ended things with Chris, 24.

“Drake's been waiting patiently on the sidelines. Just over a month ago, Drake gave Rihanna an ultimatum. He told her he needed to move on if she wasn’t going to commit. His love life was paused when Chris and Rihanna reunited, and Drake claims it caused him stress headaches, writer’s block and anxiety. He was obviously sick of it, but Rihanna wasn’t ready for him. Now Chris and Rihanna are done for good, Drake might finally get his chance,” an insider says.

Chris and Rihanna allegedly hooked up for more than a year before publicly confirming their rekindled romance in late 2012. Sadly, their relationship ended five months after that, as Chris announced in May that he was single again. Now, Rihanna is allegedly starting to believe that it’s Drake who is the one for her.

“Since that first phone call, they’ve been talking again a lot and have such a connection. She even hinted in one message that she chose the wrong guy,” the insider adds.

Drake Talks About Rihanna & Chris Brown’s Reunion
Drake recently talked about Chris and Rihanna’s reunion in GQ magazine and said he could see it “ending badly.”

“If I think about it too much, I feel it wrapping around my foot, like I get a feeling it could end really badly,” he said, “Like, it gets really dark.”

Cryptic Vin Diesel 'Avengers' Photo

It's hard to tell which character in the sprawling Marvel Universe might be the perfect fit for Vin Diesel. There are so many fast and furious heroes to go around ... not to mention villains, too.
The "Riddick" star first teased his possible involvement with an upcoming Marvel project on June 26 with a post on his Facebook page that has since been removed (probably at the request of super-secretive Marvel execs):
"Marvel has requested a meeting ... no idea what for ... haha, you probably know better than me."
We didn't, but we were certainly intrigued. Diesel has now posted a tantalizing follow-up, which includes a pic of the star next to poster-sized cover art of a back issue of "The Avengers":
"Marvel meeting today ... Only the people in the room can tell you what was discussed ... P.s. Thanks to Our page, for pushing to make it happen ... you know I get tunnel vision with my work ... and after that meeting today ... wow!"
At this point it's probably safe to assume that Vin Diesel will be joining the ever-growing cinematic Marvel Universe, joining an A-list collective cast that includes Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner and many more. So who might the man best known to audiences worldwide as street racer/mega-heist mastermind Dominic Toretto in the "Fast and Furious" series be playing?

We probably shouldn't ignore the details of the pic that Diesel posted yesterday, as it features a character that might not seem very Diesel-esque at first glance but starts to become a little more Vin-like the more you think about it. The back issue of "The Avengers" on display urges readers to "See the new Giant-Man," which is a sometimes-alias of size-shifting Dr. Hank Pym, otherwise known as Ant-Man ... and "Shaun of the Dead" director Edgar Wright just so happens to be prepping a stand-alone "Ant-Man" movie for November 2015.
Vin Diesel as a brilliant scientist who develops a suit that allows him to shrink to the size of an insect ... and, later, enlarge to the size of a giant? It's so crazy, it just might work!

Diesel's larger-than-life persona (and body) would fit right in with the over-the-top theatrics (and characters) of "Guardians of the Galaxy," the final Marvel Phase Two movie (August 1, 2014) before the "Avengers" sequel. Diesel could possibly be up for Thanos, the villain character teased at the end of "Marvel's The Avengers" and who is rumored to be the big baddie in "Guardians." He could also play Groot, the talking tree-thing, or even Rocket Raccoon, the trigger-happy, uh, raccoon.
Actually, let's go back to that posted pic. Maybe the clue isn't so much the image of Hank Pym but rather the issue of "The Avengers." Could Diesel be appearing in "Marvel's The Avengers 2"? We doubt he's up for Quicksilver (a personal favorite of writer-director Joss Whedon), but maybe he's up for an unnamed villain role in May 2015's Marvel mash-up?

There are Marvel projects further down the pipeline that seem less likely to include Diesel. Rumor has it that Phase Three (the films that will be released post-"Avengers 2") will include a "Doctor Strange" movie, and Diesel doesn't exactly give off an "elitist stage magician" vibe. The title role in a possible "Black Panther" film is certainly a possibility as well. But again, Diesel who is "of ambiguous ethnicity" (his words) doesn't quite seem like the top contender to play an African character from the fictional African nation of Wakanda.
Say, there's going to be a Marvel panel at the San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday, July 20. Might an official announcement be imminent? Diesel will already be down there for "Riddick," after all. We'll be there to find out!

Popular iPhone and iPad Apps Free Before App Store's Anniversary

It's a good day to go app shopping.
A number of the most popular paid iPhone and iPad apps are now available for free in a promotional offering before the fifth anniversary of Apple's App Store. Wednesday will be five years since the app store was launched.
Barefoot World Atlas, a beautiful interactive atlas app typically priced at $4.99, is marked as free. But there're bigger savings, too. Traktor DJ, an app that's popular among DJs and allows you to mix songs, is marked as free, down from $19.99.
There are games, too: The $6.99 price of "Infinity Blade II" has been cut down to zero and $0.99 games like "Tiny Wings" and "Where's My Water?" are also completely free. Apple has launched a section of the App Store to show all of the 10 free apps and games as well as timeline of the App Store milestones.

While Apple doesn't explicitly say how long the apps will remain free, Max Whitby, the CEO of Touch Press, the company that makes the Barefoot World Atlas app, told ABC News that the app will remain free all week.
"Barefoot World Atlas went free this morning and will remain so all this week to help celebrate five years of the App Store," Whitby told ABC News today via email. "Today's promotion is another step down the road to help spread the word [about our apps].
"In marketing apps you have to consider the big picture. The loss of one week's paid sales is far outweighed by the wider gain in awareness."
Apple sent out a timeline last week of the App Store's biggest milestones in the past five years to ABC News and other media outlets. The free apps were first spotted by technology website The Verge.

The app store was released July 10, 2008, with 500 apps. Ten million apps were downloaded in the first weekend. In May 2013, Apple announced it had seen 50 billion app downloads since launching the store.
Google's Android marketplace, or Google Play Store, has been on Apple's heels with 48 billion app downloads announced in May. When Google's Play celebrated its first birthday in March, it also offered discounts on popular apps, movies, books and magazines.

Wolkswagen's Wonder Car

Since the dawn of the combustion age, true car nuts have disdained gas mileage as the obsession of the weak-minded and unskilled; there’s no bigger punchline in the business than the Toyota Prius. The success of the Tesla Model S has begun to change the culture, but when it comes to supercars, faster and more powerful roughly equals better, while efficiency gets dismissed with prejudice.

Well, the Volkswagen XL1 may be the transformative alternative-energy vehicle, the one that finally arouses the car fiend from his gas-hungry stupor. The XL1 is a different conception of a car, a German engineer’s dream of hyper-miling. It contains no driving joy or spirit, just lots of cool, stripped-down design details, an anschulss of movement and MPG that gets an average of 262 mpg. This is ze car we’ve been waiting for.

The XL-1 doesn’t have a rear-view mirror, which makes sense, since it also doesn’t have a rear window. Other things not present in this car: Wheels thicker than a street bike’s, a backseat, or any semblance of wind resistance. It has a drag coefficient of 0.189, which, if you’re not keeping score, is almost impossibly low, less that your average bumblebee’s. Because of this, its engineers claim the XL1 can glide at reasonable speed on the autobahn using only eight horsepower.

Now that I’ve actually driven the XL1 on the highway, I don't doubt it. The thing is so compact and thin I’m surprised they didn’t just slip it underneath my hotel-room door along with my departure notice. The XL1 looks like a Blade Runner hovercar and drives like something from Disneyland’s Autopia, but without the attendant stink. Though it has an “S” mode, which ostensibly means “sport,” you’d be hard-pressed to detect such a function in the powertrain. “This,” one of its engineers told me in Germany last week, “was not the focus of our development.”

The XL1 represents the car as blue-ribbon science fair project. But unlike other megacars, which are built to maximize speed and power, this one, more than ten years and upward of a billion dollars in the designing, contains not one centimeter of wasted space or poundage. The engineers eliminated power steering because it would have added 10 kilograms. For maximum lightness, the core of its body and chassis is comprised of a one-piece molded carbon-fiber monocoque. The magnesium wheels get wrapped in custom-light Michelin rubber. The windows lower with hand cranks. There’s no radio — the sound system wraps through the Garmin GPS — and no place to plug in your smartphone, because Bluetooth is lighter.

All of this results in a car that weighs 1,753 lbs. Under its rear hatch lies a two-cylinder diesel that generates 47 hp, which would have been fairly weak in 1960, much less in the era where the average Hyundai generates up to 200 hp. The XL1 has a 27-hp electric battery, which can propel it about 31 miles on its own, up to 62 mph. It can fully recharge, Volkswagen says, in an hour and a half. The maximum speed overall, using the full hybrid drivetrain, is 94 mph. There’s a 2.6-gallon fuel tank, which lets the XL1 achieve a total range of 310 miles — since it can't be run at maximum efficiency all of the time.

The car is a design marvel, with a front that looks as smooth and modern as a Mercedes S-class, and a rear that doesn’t so much taper off as disappear into the void. Even the rear wheels are hidden by metal coverings, making it look like the car is balancing entirely on its forelegs. When viewed from the rear, XL1 is angular and beautiful, a shiny metal bolt, or maybe a super suppository.

In true supercar fashion, the doors open in dramatic gull-wing style, making the XL1 look like a personalized drone. When both are up, the car’s cockpit manifests dramatically, like a robot Easter egg. The trunk opens with less style, but contains a nifty-looking carbon-fiber XL1 logo, and enough cargo space to hold a small weekend bag.

Inside, the seats are high-end canvas, looking appreciably cool and sporty. Everything else is streamlined and light. The steering wheel has a flat bottom, like a race car’s, or at least a racing simulator’s. In general, “simulated” is the best way to describe the way the XL-1 drives.

To repeat, the car has no rear-view mirror. It also doesn’t have side mirrors, which the engineers replaced to reduce drag. In their place are side-mounted cameras, meaning that when you drive the car, you have to watch two camera feeds at once at once to not only monitor your blind spots, but every spot. “We are convinced that the side cameras are enough,” an engineer told me. “It’s difficult when you first start but you get used to it.”

I must respectfully dissent. The XL1’s other quirks, like the whooshing sound of the carbon-disc brakes, the strange growly noises the engine makes in diesel mode, and the lack of power steering, not to mention the raw, low overall feel of the ride — those I could get used to. It’s what you’d expect out of a hyper-miled car. You have to sacrifice a little comfort and performance. But for a car you need to drive yourself, one that contains no lane-departure warnings or other modern safety features, not having a rear-view mirror is just dangerous.

This wasn’t a carnival ride or a test-track. I took the XL1 into city traffic, in a foreign country, in the middle of the afternoon, and it was terrifying. Trying to wrench the steering wheel was hard enough, though I figured it out after a while. Also, I drive a lot of hybrids, so I didn’t find the lack of pickup in the XL1 disturbing. But I did find it hard to enjoy the fact that I was getting the best gas mileage of all time because I could not really see behind me. You try that sometime.

When I hit the highway, things got better. The XL1 was actually better to drive at higher speeds. It got up to 140 kmh in due time, and held its speed without trouble. Sure enough, I could feel the glide. It was almost counter-intuitive. These kinds of cars are supposed to be better in the city, but this one almost felt like a cross-country runner, tireless, with hidden reserves. Also, there wasn’t as much traffic, so it removed a certain level of panic from the experience.

Later, at a lecture about the car, one of the engineers said, “There are technology enthusiasts who say the XL1 is perfect, but others who say it’s not good enough yet.” I’m not sure where I fall on that scale, honestly. I’m also not sure that the XL1 really exists outside of an R&D concept.

Volkswagen has made 50 of them so far. They’re using a few for test-driving, and the rest are currently in the hands of fortunate Eurozone residents who won an essay contest about green energy and urban design. The plan, VW says, is to manufacture about 250 total, but they won’t say whether they plan to sell or less them, won’t say exactly when, and won’t give an idea about how much they’re going to cost. It’s only going to be Europe, though; residents of North America will either have to spot a rarity in the wild or see one in a museum in the future.

There’s also no indication of what extraordinary XL1 related tech, other than the two-cylinder hybrid drive-train, already in use in VW’s Up! budget compact, will appear in other Volkswagen group cars. I suspect that the XL1’s brave new ground in airflow intake will affect how we drive in the future, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see carbon-fiber creep as the public begins to relentlessly clamor for more monocoque. In the future, hopefully, more cars will be small and weird and cool and slow and awesome and really fuel-efficient.

Let’s just hope they have rear-view mirrors.

Kristen Stewart : Classy & Friendly At Paris Show

You would never guess that KStew might be upset over the fact that her ex, Robert Pattinson, is dating her former co-star Riley Keough!
Kristen Stewart always looks stylish and chic and her appearance at the Zuhair Murad Haute Couture show on July 4 proved to be no exception. The 23-year-old really pushed the envelope when she attended the show in Paris, rocking a sheer embellished jumpsuit.

Kristen Stewart Zuhair Murad Outfit:
Kristen’s love for trendy, punk-rock style clothes definitely showed as she strutted her stuff front row in a Zuhair Murad jumpsuit at the designer’s couture show at the Hotel de Montmorency. KStew looked edgy and confident in a strapless black jumpsuit, which featured a sweetheart neckline, accentuating her collarbone and sleek lines.

This sexy ensemble had sheer, skinny lace pants and a ruched bodice which hugged her curves. Underneath the lacy leg was a not-so-hidden, leotard-style bottom. 50 Cent Sends Angry Texts To Son, 15, In Shocking Rant

It has been a rough week for 50 Cent. Five days after he was charged with a misdemeanor for domestic violence, a shocking text conversation between him and his son has been revealed.
Rapper 50 Cent, real name Curtis Jackson, has been making headlines more for his dramatic personal life than his music. In the latest unfortunate news for the 38-year-old rapper, a conversation with his 15-year-old son, Marquise Jackson, has been leaked, and it definitely doesn’t paint him in the best light.

50 Cent Shockingly Vicious Conversation With Son Revealed
In an alleged conversation that took place between 50 Cent and his son in January, things got ugly between the two after Marquise didn’t answer the door when 50 Cent went to go visit him, according to RadarOnline.com. The texting conversation went on for more than an hour, but some texts were definitely more alarming than others, including profanity and even threats that 50 Cent will never talk to Marquise again.

50 told Marquise he would never go out of his way again for his son, calling him a “disrespectful little mother f****r.” Later on, he also called Marquise a “little a** h***,” the site is reporting.

In the middle of the conversation, the rapper referred to Marquise’s mom, 50 Cent’s ex, Shaniqua Tompkins, and said some extremely alarming comments that no child should ever hear. He texted:

Tell your mother she won. She has you and ill make another. I will have nothing to do with you. Don’t text me ever again.

Making matters sound pretty final, he also told Marquise, “I don’t have a son anymore.” 50 Cent and Shaniqua have been battling over custody of Marquise since 2007, but after this conversation, it sounds like there may not be much communication between 50 Cent and Marquise whatsoever.

50 Cent Faces Misdemeanor Charges For Domestic Violence
Although the alarming text conversation between 50 Cent and his son took place back in January, it couldn’t have been been exposed to the public at a worse time for 50 Cent.

On July 3, the rapper was charged with one count of misdemeanor domestic violence and four counts of vandalism. In an alleged June 23 rampage, 50 Cent reportedly kicked his ex-girlfriend at her Toluca Lake, California condo, also destroying the woman’s chandeliers, television, furniture and a lamp. He also reportedly ransacked a bedroom closet. No reports confirmed if the ex-girlfriend involved in the incident was Shaniqua, but regardless, there’s certainly some hot air in 50 Cent’s current personal life.

Jay-Z Slams Miley Cyrus For Twerking Again: She’s A ‘Nightmare’

In a new twitter rant, Jay-Z explains Miley’s love of twerking as ‘Black neighbor, and the daughter not seeing color.’ Is that a total diss?
Here’s a sentence we never thought we’d write: Jay-Z is coming out swinging against Miley Cyrus – again — for her newfound love of twerking. During a question-and-answer session with fans July 8, BeyoncĂ©‘s husband received the following tweet: “You really think Miley Cyrus still twerking somewhere in America?” Then came his epic answer.
“Yes!” Jay-Z tweeted back. “She represents an old worlds worst nightmare.”

Lack of punctuation aside, Jay is clearly taking a major dig at the former Hannah Montana star. I mean, how many different ways can you interpret him calling her ‘an old world’s worst nightmare?’

Jay-Z Mocks Miley’s Twerking On His New Album
Oddly enough, this isn’t the first time Jay-Z has dissed Miley, specifically for her twerking obsession. His new album, Magna Carta… Holy Grail, contains a song titled “Somewhere In America,” and his lyrics couldn’t be any more pointed:

When I was talking Instagram, last thing you wanted was your picture snapped. Feds still lurking, they see I’m still putting work in, ’cause somewhereinamerica, Miley Cyrus is still twerkin’, ha! Twerk, twerk, twerk, twerk, twerk, Miley, Miley, twerk, twerk, twerk, Miley, Miley, Miley, twerk. Twerk, yeah, ugh-huh. Twerk, Miley, Miley, Miley — Only in America.

A New Tool Aims to Help Facebook Users Dig Deep

Facebook is an excellent tool for certain kinds of social interaction. With a couple of clicks, you can share a cute photo of your newborn baby. You can pop over to the page of a college buddy and find out where he lives now and whether he is a fan of “Mad Men.”
But just try finding that photo of Mom and Dad in front of the Eiffel Tower during their 2008 trip to Paris, or the name of that lovely bistro nearby that they mentioned in a status update. Odds are, you would have to plow through a lot of old posts and photos to dig out that information, if you could find it at all.
Now, Facebook is trying to make it easier to find that lost photo or restaurant recommendation and unearth other information buried within your social network with a tool it calls Graph Search.
On Monday, the company will roll out the feature to its several hundred million users in the United States and to others who use the American English version of the site. Other languages will follow.
Developing a sophisticated search feature is vital to Facebook’s long-term success, both to deepen users’ engagement and to make it more appealing to advertisers.
Experts say that Facebook’s technical achievement so far is impressive. Privacy could still be an issue, however, as more user data becomes easily accessible. Also, the feature is dependent on Facebook users volunteering more information about their likes and dislikes.
Ever since Facebook released an early version of the tool in January, the development team has been observing and listening to millions of testers and making improvements. “We launched it early, when it still was in a pretty raw state,” Lars Rasmussen, the engineering director of the project, acknowledged in a recent interview.
Early on, Mr. Rasmussen said, users had trouble even finding the search box, which was blue and melded into the border at the top of every Facebook page. The team eventually made the box white and used words to explicitly describe its purpose.
The tool also has struggled to understand how people actually use language.
For example, typing in “surfers who live in Santa Cruz” confounded the search engine, which was tuned to recognize the phrase “people who like to surf” but not synonyms like surfers or “people who like surfing,” said Loren Cheng, who leads the team of linguists who are working to refine the tool’s natural language capabilities.
The engineers also had to adapt the algorithms to consider the many ways that people express interest in a topic.
For example, Mr. Rasmussen, a ballet fan, said that when he looked for “friends who like ballet,” only two popped up. But many more friends had liked the pages of individual ballet companies. So the search engine now takes into account related pages when assessing whether users like a topic.
Facebook’s Graph Search is still a work in progress, as company officials are quick to acknowledge. Its recognition of synonyms and related topics is spotty. It cannot yet find information in status updates, a top request from users. It does not yet incorporate information from third-party apps like Yelp or Instagram, which is owned by Facebook. And the new search tool is not available on Facebook’s mobile apps, which are increasingly the way that people use the service.
But Facebook believes it is now good enough for wide release. And despite the tool’s limitations, technologists praised the company’s work.
“There is a near infinite variety of ways to say anything in English or in any other language,” said Nick Cassimatis, an associate professor at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a co-founder of SkyPhrase, a start-up working on similar natural-language search technology. “They are trying to memorize all the ways of saying something.”
Unlike Google’s familiar search engine, which typically takes the keywords entered into a search box and matches them to the most relevant Web pages that contain them, Facebook’s search looks primarily at structured data.
That means the company analyzes the virtual check boxes that people fill out on the site, like movie pages they have liked, restaurants they have checked into, the city they live in and their relationship status.
That creates particular challenges.
“We don’t go through and ‘like’ all the things that we really like,” said Danny Sullivan, founding editor of Search Engine Land and a longtime observer of the industry. “And if you don’t do that, the database is minimal.”
Privacy is another complication.
The company promises that Graph Search will show only information that the searcher would normally be allowed to see under the privacy settings defined by the person who posted the data. So a search for Christians in San Francisco who like to knit won’t pull up everyone who fits that profile, only those who have decided to publicly disclose their religion, love of knitting and location.
As Graph Search becomes widely available, Facebook users might be surprised at what information about themselves shows up in searches that others do, especially if old items were posted with looser privacy restrictions.
Finally, the company must deal with the flood of new data coming in. It said its 1.1 billion global users posted 3.3 million new items every minute in May.
If the company does make it easy for users to sift through all of that information, it could open a new era in search.
Google and specialized search sites present users with information from strangers, Mr. Sullivan said. Facebook “is potentially promising us the ability to search the knowledge of our friends.”
Mr. Cheng from the linguistics team said that based on Facebook’s current tests with about 20 million people, the most frequent queries are people searches, as users seek friends of friends that they might have met, potential dates and people who live in a particular city. Photo searches came in second, followed by recommendations for restaurants and bars, hotels, stores and gyms.
This year, Facebook intends to expand the search tool to include results based on scans of the actual words in status updates as well as data from third-party applications. Graph Search will also be added to Facebook’s mobile apps. The company is even experimenting with predictions, suggesting movies and books a person might like based on what else they like and what their friends like.
Facebook hopes that an ever-improving search tool will prompt users to spend more time on the service and share more information about themselves by, say, checking in to restaurants and liking more pages.
That would have myriad benefits for Facebook’s business. More detailed dossiers of its users would allow the company to better target advertising to people receptive to a marketer’s message. And since people tend to trust recommendations from their friends, the companies that pop up in search results could find it more appealing to advertise to searchers.
For Facebook’s users, a powerful search tool makes the service a better place to get information and connect with others.
“Finding people, finding activities, finding recommendations is part of what makes Facebook useful,” said Colin Sebastian, an analyst at R.W. Baird & Company. The problem, he said, “is that there hasn’t been a way for users to access that data.”

Why Is Brad Pitt Jealous of Matt Damon?

Just because Brad Pitt and Matt Damon are besties (OK, they might not actually be besties, but they're definitely friends) doesn't mean there's not a little jealousy between them from time to time. At least, that's what Damon says.
Apparently, Pitt envies Damon's fame. Well, Damon's type of fame, anyway.

"If you can control the celebrity side of celebrity, then it's worth it," the 42-year-old star explains in the August issue Esquire magazine. "I look at Brad — and I have for years — and when I'm with him I see the intensity of that other side of it. And the paparazzi and the insane level of aggression they have and their willingness to break the law and invade his space — well, I wonder about that trade."
It's the little things that Pitt simply cannot do without causing a paparazzi mob scene that really hit home for the star.
"I remember telling [Brad] that I walk my kids to school, and his face just fell," Damon recalls. "He was very kind, but he was like, 'You bastard.' Because he should be able to do that too. And he can't."

But that's not the only marked difference between the two actors.
"I got lucky. I fell in love with a civilian," Damon muses. "Not an actress and not a famous actress at that. Because then the attention doesn’t double — it grows exponentially. Because then suddenly everybody wants to be in your bedroom."
He's definitely got a point ... but he's also got a strategy. And so far, it seems to be working.

"I don’t really give them anything," he quips. "If I’m not jumping up and down on a bar, or lighting something on fire, or cheating on my wife, there’s not really any story to tell. They can try to stake me out, but they’re always going to get the same story — middle-aged married guy with four kids. So as long as that narrative doesn’t change too much, there’s no appetite for it."
While Pitt doesn't seem to have much of a wild streak these days either, he does happen to be teamed up with one of the most famous actresses on the planet — which no doubt makes walking their gorgeous offspring to school without anyone noticing a bit more of a challenge. We get how that would get old fast ... but something tells us that being with Angelina Jolie is totally worth it.

G. Clooney and Girlfriend Split Up

George Clooney and girlfriend of two years Stacy Keibler are over, sources confirm to omg!.
"It happened recently, but things didn't end on bad terms," an insider tells omg!. "Work and busy schedules kept them apart."
People magazine, which first reported the news, claimed the couple separated over Keibler's desire to have children.
"Stacy called it quits," a source close to the couple told the magazine. "She wants to have children and a family someday. She knows where George stands on that."
However, sources tell omg! that is inaccurate.
"That's not what happened," says another of omg!'s insiders. "Kids, a family, George's stance? That had nothing to do with it."
In fact, Keibler, 33, has even said numerous times before that she "lives in the moment," rather than thinking ahead about marriage and kids.
"That is not on my radar at all," Keibler told E! Online last fall. "I'm definitely the girl who doesn't talk about that kind of stuff. I'm not really interested in thinking about marriage or kids at all ... I'm more of a guy that way."
When reached for comment, a rep for the 52-year-old actor replied, "George has never commented on his personal life and neither will I."
Omg! has reached out to a rep for Keibler as well but has not yet received a response.

Speculation about a breakup reached a crescendo during 4th of July weekend when Clooney was photographed without Keibler at his vacation home in Lake Como, Italy. Meanwhile, she posted a couple of photos from Malibu on her Instagram over the holiday, including one of herself with another guy (although it's unclear who he is).

The last time the couple actually was seen together was on March 21 in Berlin, when Keibler was photographed visiting Clooney on the set of his upcoming film "The Monuments Men."

The most telltale sign of trouble in recent months took place over Memorial Day weekend, when Clooney was photographed leaving a London club at 3 a.m., around the same time a former flame of his named Monika Jakisic was also exiting.
Clooney's rep issued a statement from the actor at the time saying, "The story is made up. I wasn't holding anybody's hand. Stop trying to sell magazines by creating scandal that isn't there." The strong denial spoke volumes, but, interestingly, contained no mention of Keibler.
That same weekend, Keibler was just a hop, skip, and a jump away, also in Europe. The former professional wrestler had a "zip slip" wardrobe malfunction in Monte Carloat the Formula One F1 Grand Prix event.
Keibler's been busy recently promoting her new game show, "Supermarket Superstar," which premieres July 22 on Lifetime, while Clooney has been continuing to shoot "The Monuments Men" in Europe, which he wrote, and is directing and starring in.
